NEISA Open Team Race Championship/Fowle

Summary

Saturday, April 6:

It was an awesome first day of racing at the NEISA Open Team Race Championship for the Fowle Trophy. 66 races were sailed right off the docks to complete the first round of all 12 teams in FJs and 420s. Winds ranged from 10-20 knots out of mainly the North with big shifts to the NW and NE. It was cold with some precipitation at times from some passing squall lines and some sun at times too.

A huge thanks to our awesome umpire group of 9 umpires led by Chief Umpire John Pratt. Thanks as well to Coast Guard, Dartmouth, Harvard, the Moses Brown School, and Roger Williams for bringing powerboats, to David Thompson (Coast Guard) for being the NEISA Rep, to Rob Migliaccio for taking awesome photos, and to all of the Brown sailors who helped out today.

The racing was terrific and there is a 5-way tie for first place with all five teams with a record of 8-3. The top 8 teams move on for tomorrow to the Top 8 round with a first warning at 10:00am between Dartmouth and Brown.

Sunday, April 7:

It was another great day of racing at the NEISA Open Team Race Championship for the Fowle Trophy. Things started at 10:00am with Round 2 of the top 8 teams and finished up around 1:15pm. Round 3 of the Top 6 teams was sailed from 2:15pm until the last start at 4:15pm. Both of these rounds were sailed in FJs and 109 races were sailed in total for the weekend, with the top 6 teams sailing 23 races (that's a lot of racing!). Winds ranged from 6-15 knots out of mainly the North with big shifts to the NW and NE. The wind velocity slowly decreased throughout the day and it was nice to have some sun and slightly warmer temps than day one.

A huge thanks to our awesome umpire group of 9 umpires led by Chief Umpire John Pratt. Thank you Abby Cook, George Eristoff, Paul Gilman, John Mastrandrea, Abby Preston, Julia Reynolds, Megan Roach, and Hunter Zonnenberg. The umpires did a terrific job and braved some cold weather and long days over the weekend.

Thanks as well to Coast Guard, Dartmouth, Harvard, the Moses Brown School, and Roger Williams for bringing powerboats; to David Thompson (Coast Guard) for being the NEISA Rep; and to Rob Migliaccio for taking awesome photos throughout the weekend. Thank you to all of the Brown sailors who helped out on the water: Martin Atilla, Jean-Luc Depardieu, Lake Gifford, Connor Macken, Catherine Morrissette, Mason Stang, and Anna Steffen.

The racing was intense all weekend with some close overall results for the top 4 teams. Congratulations to Yale on winning the NEISA Open Team Race Championship for the Fowle Trophy with a 17-6 record and getting an automatic berth to the ICSA Open Team Race National Championship in late April at Harvard and MIT. Harvard (16-7), Brown (15-8), and Roger Williams (14-9) rounded out the top 4.
