The Ashley River Trophy

Summary

Saturday, September 23:

Extremely shifty conditions today for the 3rd annual Ashley River Trophy. The course was set between the James Island Connector & T. Allen Legare Bridges on a very busy stretch of water. Multiple rental party pontoons carrying screaming bachelorette parties surrounded the course at all times along with sizable boat traffic passing through. The mooring field of derelict boats to the west and Ashley Marina to the east were also in play. Breeze was out of the northwest all afternoon ranging from 5-12 knots. We saw some shifts over 20°, but the breeze always managed to square back up, which only resulted in only several course adjustments throughout the day. Competitors dealt with the classically strong Charleston current on the flood tide today. Current peaked at around 3 knots in the early afternoon and flooded all day until racing was complete. The flood tide resulted in multiple general recalls and 2 "I" flag starts.

CofC won the day convincingly, followed by a strong showing by Clemson in 2nd and Citadel rounding out the podium in 3rd. Thank you to everyone who made the trip out to Charleston to do some sailboat racing today!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
