Day 1 of the Open Eastern and Western National semifinals featured hot, humid with weather with early cumulus clouds foreshadowing the afternoon's storms. Racing began promptly at 9:30am for Eastern Division in FJ's, followed by Western Division in 420's. Winds started at 10-11 knots from the ESE and remained consistent until fading mid-day to the 4 knot minimum. Sailors were sent back to the beach to wait for a seabreeze.
Unfortunately the afternoon thunderstorms won the race with the seabreeze and no further racing was possible. Four A division races were completed in both Western and Eastern, but only two B division races. All races were W4's, averaging 20 minutes in length.
One breakdown request was awarded, 1 redress request was withdrawn, and two protests resulted in two disqualifications. Thank you to Chief Judge Craig Daniels and his team of Warren Collier, Adam Larson, and Ian Lineburger.

Day 2 of the Open Semifinals began with more sunny skies and east winds at 9-10 knots. Racing commenced promptly at 8:30am, earlier than usual due to less races on day 1. By mid-day the wind dropped below the 4 knot minimum and sailors returned to shore and waited for the seabreeze to fill.
Racing resumed in a SW breeze of 7-9 knots with the final race started just before the time limit. A total of 28 races were sailed during the event, 7 A and 7 B races in both Eastern and Western divisions. All morning races were W4's and afternoon races were W5's, averaging 20-22 minutes in length.
No breakdowns were filed, one redress was granted, two protests were heard resulting in two disqualifications.
