Admiral's Cup

Summary

Saturday, April 27:

Day 1 Today competitors were met with a 10 kt southerly breeze building and shifting left throughout the day. The temperatures were chilly in the low 50s and only warming slightly. The consistent breeze allowed PRO Tony Weiner to put on 6 races before lunch break and 3 following. Ultimately, racing concluded at 1600 due to gusts reaching 29 kts. 2 protests were heard disqualifying George Washington from Race 2A and granting breakdown to Cornell in Race 9B. At the end of the day KP leads the regatta by 22 points after consistent finishes from their Midshipmen in both divisions.

Sunday, April 28:

Day 2 Competitors arrived at report time to a beautiful day for anything but sailing with a classic glassy Long Island sound. As the day proceeded a light westerly tried to fill but was combatted by thermal action. Ultimately the fighting breezes settled and the sound returned to a dead calm with significant flooding current. Temperatures were in the low 70s and competitors enjoyed camaraderie on the pier and playing cornhole on the back deck of the sailing center while waiting for breeze. An additional protest was heard from Saturday disqualifying UPenn and Vermont from race 6B. After a few hours of on shore postponement, racing was abandoned due to a lack of breeze. The sailors were free to travel home at 1230 following a brief awards ceremony. Admiral Nunan, Superintendent of The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy presented the Admiral McClintock Challenge Trophy to regatta winners: U.S. Merchant Marine Academy/Kings Point.

Thank you to PRO Tony Weiner; Judges Sam Hahn, Tom Conlin, TJ Shea; Mark boat operators Larry Kennedy & Tom Nunan; regatta organizer Coach Rick Dominique and all Kings Point Midshipman who sacrificed their free weekend to help put on the regatta.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
