Duplin Women’s TR

Saturday, March 25:

42nd Joseph R. Duplin Trophy for Women's team racing at Tufts. Upper Mystic Lake, Medford, MA 18 Larks

A cold East wind blew all day with a little bit of rain and even some ice pellets mixed in. Velocity varied from five to eighteen knots but it wasn't too shifty. In fact, we never moved marks in all 45 races of the round-robin.

Two breakdown requests were heard both resulting in no award. Two protests were heard from the same race resulting in one boat on each team receiving a DSQ, thus no change in the race winner.

Due to stronger winds predicted for tomorrow, the format will be a continuation for the top six teams only with a fifteen race round-robin. The bottom four have the day off to stay and stay out of the water.

Thanks coaches for hearing the protests/breakdowns. Special thanks to undergrads Ella Hubbard and Maisie MacGillivray for scoring and helping with minor breakdowns and a big shout out to Niall Sheridan for manning the finish boat in bone chilling conditions. It was cold in the start boat too. PRO: Ken

Sunday, March 26:

Windy, but not nearly as cold as Saturday. Sunny early, then clouds and big WNW wind. More sun in the pm with nice warm-up to 55 degrees. Big variation in velocity, from 10 to 25. Many capsizes early. Big lulls allowed racing to continue with 12 Larks for six teams. Round-robin of top six only resulted in a number of ties. In a close sail-off race, Brown prevailed over Harvard with a 2-3-4 for first place. Four protests were heard from that race, one for rule 20 near the finish and others for rule 11, etc. near marks three and four.

Big thanks again to senior Niall Sheridan for finish boat duty, boat rigging, writing the rotation, de-rigging boats, and boathouse cleanup. Also thanks to coaches Matt Lindblad, Greg Wilkinson, and Bern Noack PRO: Ken
