Summary

Saturday, March 28:

A late report time of 10:00 was ordered to allow the weather to warm which did not happen. The temperature remained at 33 degrees and it snowed all day making for wet conditions. The wind however, was perfect for team racing mostly Z420s and some FJs, North (010-020 degrees) at 10-16 knots.

Brown and Tufts shared RC duties with one coach and three students each. A few coaches willingly heard a couple protests at days end.

This low-key event was fast paced with nine races per team each day. The quality of the team racing was a bit sporadic but improving throughout. Stanford broke away from their first opponent right at the start as they did with most teams to compile a perfect record.

Sunday, March 29:

Sunshine and frozen pipes greeted the ten teams with good wind to start, NNE (010-030) at 7-14. The temperature climbed nicely to 40 degrees (only 10 below normal) as the wind got flukey varying in direction from NW to NE and from 1 knot to 11 knots after noon.

The quality of the team racing continued to improve although a number of teams lost track of the race course in the huge shifts. Stanford continued to dominate winning half their races right from the start. Other than Stanford, it seemed any team could beat any other team depending upon how well they started, played windshifts, and executed timely team racing tactics. Despite the weather this was a really fun regatta. It rewarded both deep women's teams and those that help push their coed teams in practice.

Thanks again to the Brown and Tufts students for running races and to Brown for hosting an event while Mystic Lake at Tufts continues to see too much ice in the latest ice-out in memory.
