BU Trophy

Summary

Saturday, April 4:

Sixteen teams arrived for the 11:30 report time for the BU Trophy. At report time, the wind was approximately 15 - 22 knows from the West-Northwest. Four boats were sent out to investigate whether the conditions were good for racing. It seemed as though they were, so the fleet was told to launch. Racing was abandoned when the wind built substantially during the first starting sequence. Top wind speeds were likely in the low thirties, maybe more, and numerous boats capsized. Racing was cancelled for the day when the fleet returned to the dock. Report time for Sunday is 9:30, racing will start soon after. Race Committee was Conor Fowler (BU '14) and Stan Schreyer (BU '99). A special thanks to Harvard and MIT for lending a hand with their safety boats as the fleet sailing in.

Sunday, April 5:

Racing began at 10:30 in a heavy westerly. Winds averaged 12-18 kts with some puffs well over 25 kts. The sailors were challenged by the puffy conditions, which led to several auto tacks and capsizes. The race committee ran W4s and W5s, with the starting line right next to the Mass Ave Bridge. We completed 4 races in A division but were unable to complete race 4B as increasing breeze forced the hand of the race committee, who called it a day at 2 pm.

Two requests for redress were denied.

Congratulations to the Harvard Crimson for winning the 2015 BU Trophy.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
