Mt. Hope Bay Invite

Summary

Saturday, September 10:

The forecast wasn't promising. Competitors waited onland for two hours during a postponement and the ten teams commenced the MHB Cornhole Tournament. Just after noon A division took to the water in a light West and occasionally Southwest breeze. There were two 80+ degree wind shifts before the start, which wasn't a great sign, but we started the W4 race nonetheless. Shortly after the fleet rounded the windward mark the breeze started to dissipate again and the race was called off; competitors were sent to the dock to wait for better sailing conditions. Conditions improved only after the regatta was called for the day because of course they did.

Sunday, September 11:

On the 21st anniversary of 9/11, racing started promptly at 10am, this time in a light, but sailable southerly breeze. Again the current was carrying competitors over the line at the start prompting the RC to start under the I flag all day. Despite that, we saw many individual recalls, and just about everyone hit the leeward gate at some point during the day.

Thanks to Alex Rudkin '14 and the UMass Dartmouth Coaches for hearing 2 protests resulting in 1 DSQ. RWU undergrads Ben Lindo, Katie McGagh, Ethan Burt, and Peter Cotoia did a wonderful job on the RC boat and mark set.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
