2022 McMillan Cup

Summary

Saturday, October 22:

Today's forecast for the Annapolis area of the Chesapeake Bay unfortunately proved to be quite accurate; not enough wind to hold any races..

PRO Paul Clissold and his RC team did all they could to make something happen but it just wasn't to be. With an improved wind forecast for tomorrow, the RC is hoping to get three or more races Racing will start 30 minutes earlier tomorrow<<

Sunday, October 23:

The 10 team fleet competing for the 2022 McMillan Cup was greeted with much better conditions today with NNE winds in the 13-18 knot range throughout the day.

After losing yesterday to no wind, PRO Paul Clissold moved the start time up 30 minutes this morning to maximize the number of races he could run. The ideal conditions allowed four windward/leeward races to be run.

The course was set southeast of Tolly Point and featured a heavy ebb current that slowly tapered off during races 3 and 4.

The University of Rhode Island Rams sailed a smart and consistent regatta, getting off the line clean each race to post scores of 2,1,1,2 and claim victory. Kings Point were a close second scoring 1,3,3,1 while Navy was less consistent with finishes of 5,2,5,3 to take third. College of Charleston was super consistent with three 4ths but one poor race to finish fourth.

Thanks to Navy Sailing volunteers Frieda Wildey, Jan Richardson, Karen Yeigh, Kim Todd, Steve Small and Tom Stalder as well as the many midshipman team members who also helped on Race Committee as well as our jury including Dan Trammell (chairman), Maureen Mills, Nelson Pemberton and John McPherson as well as our cadre of safety officers including David Andril, Jay Butler, Bill White, Doug Dykman, Carroll Sparwasser, Bob Girrier, Nelson Pemberton, Jay Corcoran, Aron Axe, and Dan Trammell without whom we could not host these events.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
