The Dark of Night Regatta

Summary

Thursday, October 24:

Best Dark of Night Regatta yet! Perfect breeze, mild temperatures and a clear view of Jupiter and Saturn low in the Southwest. Wind began SW 6-12 but shifted to SSW shortly after starting. SSW is our "Dam breeze" straight over the Mystic Lakes dam which is our steadiest wind. It also allows starting up near the dam in close view from the boathouse.

All courses were "Apex 4." Our Apex course starts on a broad reach from either side of the apex mark reaching or running down into the top gate known as the drain. Then all run down to the leeward gate, back up to the windward gate, and around again, ultimately finishing after a left turn from the upper gate.

Race 1A was sailed in full but low sunshine illuminating the foliage. 2A saw the sun dip below the Arlington Hill. 1B started right at sunset. 2B was during the brief dusk with the pink sky steadily darkening in the WSW. 3A followed by 3B were both raced in total darkness as mast-lights on the Larks zipped around the lake

Meanwhile, nachos, homemade chili, music and even dock dancing to 80's dance music was enjoyed ashore at the Bacow Sailing Pavilion as "A" and "B" divisions each had an offset and a half ashore.

Many thanks to PRO Emmet Smith, and countless undergrads that made a feast for 60 and cleaned up afterwards.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
