Sharpe Trophy Team Race

Summary

Saturday, March 2:

A nice 6-8 knot South/SE breeze filled in to start racing on time with some great early season team racing through about the first half of round one. The wind deteriorated as a light rain came in and competitors were postponed ashore for an hour or so. A light, just raceable South/SE breeze filled back in for a few more races before the wind died again around 3pm for good. One protest between Brown and Yale resulted in a DSQ for each team. Thanks to the coaches for hearing it and to Mike Kalin (MIT) for being the NEISA Rep. A huge thanks to Rob Migliaccio for taking awesome photos throughout the day and to Brown sailors Sidney Moyer '27, Martin Atilla '27 and Will Salerno '25 for helping on the water. A lot more racing to go with hopes of finishing this round and getting in another. The first warning for Race 18 is set to begin at 10:40am tomorrow.

Sunday, March 3:

Day two of the Sharpe was a near perfect day for team racing with a shifty 6-12 knot Northerly, flat water, and warming temps and sun. Racing was right off the dock making rotations quick and spectating great. A lot of races were sailed in a short amount of time with most teams getting in 10 more races by 3pm and 14 races total per team for the weekend. The second full round robin was completed with 5 minutes to spare by the 3pm cutoff time. A resail between Brown 2 and Yale was sailed just after 3pm. All races were in FJs with a lot of close races coming down to the finish.

A few protests were heard at the end of the day resulting in DSQ's for Brown 1 and RWU. Thanks to the coaches for hearing them and to Mike Kalin (MIT) for being the NEISA Rep. A huge thanks to Rob Migliaccio for taking awesome photos throughout the weekend and to Brown sailors Sierra Bornheim '24, Spencer Dellenbaugh '24, and Lulu Hamilton '27 for helping on Sunday.

Congratulations to Harvard for the winning the Sharpe Trophy on a tiebreaker over Yale.
