Day 1 of the Women's Eastern and Western semifinals featured sunny, warm weather with temperatures in the mid-80's. Racing began promptly at 9:30am for Western Division in 420's, followed by Eastern Division in FJ's. Winds started out at 8-10 knots from the NE and built to 10-12 knots with gusts to 14.
Mid-day conditions were less than ideal however, with 45 degree shifts and speeds from 2 to 8 knots, all in minute-by-minute swings, forcing the abandonment of Western race 3B. Sailors were sent back to the beach for a short break, and the anticipated northwesterly filled in by 2:30pm.
Racing resumed with steady NW winds from 13 to 18 knots and very flat water. All races were W4 or W5, averaging 19-20 minutes in length. Six A and six B races were completed in each division, for a total of 24 races. Credit to PRO Todd Fedyszyn and his team of USF sailors for their efficiency.
There were 4 capsizes, 0 breakdown requests, and 4 total protests filed across both divisions. One protest was withdrawn, one disallowed, and two resulted in disqualifications. Thank you to Chief Judge Amy Ferreira and her team of Mike Kasper, Jason Maher, and Dick Gumpert.
Congratulations to Day 1 leaders Stanford University in Eastern and Brown University in Eastern.
Day 2 of the Women's Semifinals began with more sunny skies and ESE winds at 7-8 knots. Racing commenced promptly at 9:30am with Western's A division in FJ's followed by Eastern in 420's. By mid-day B division's race 7 had to be abandoned as the wind dropped below the 4 knot minimum. Sailors returned to shore and waited for the seabreeze to fill.
Racing resumed in a SW breeze of 10-11 knots. A strong tidal current was pushing boats over the line and caused multiple general recalls for all fleets. The final race ended at 4:40pm, with a total of 40 races sailed during the event, 10 A and 10 B races in both Eastern and Western divisions. All races today were W4's, averaging 20 minutes in length.
No breakdowns were filed, one protest was heard resulting in a disqualification.
Congratulations to the top 9 teams from Eastern and Western advancing to the Finals.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
