Day one started with a brisk northerly on beautiful Lake Cayuga. PRO, Charlie Knape, had a race course set and ready at 0915. The breeze was not strong enough to start any races in the morning, so student-athletes enjoyed cornhole and frisbee on the Merrill Family Sailing Center lawn while waiting for conditions to improve. The afternoon welcomed a warm southerly breeze as the sun began to peek out from behind the clouds. Boats launched for the first race starting at 1325. 31 races were completed by 1730. A hearing was held after the last scheduled race, and the umpires decided to resail race 28 due to a breakdown caused by a collision with a floating log between marks one and two. Race 28 was resailed during the golden hour, concluding the day!
Easter morning greeted the MAISA Championship sailors with light showers as they rigged their boats for another spectacular day of team racing on Lake Cayuga. As the sailors made their way out to the first race of the day, the rain subsided, and a building northerly flowed down the glacial lake. Following the completion of round two, rotations were changed to attempt a third round robin of the top six teams. The top six round robin did not finish before 4pm, two races from that round were used to break the tie to determine the podium. Congratulations to the U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen, our 2026 MAISA Open Team Race Champions. Thank you to all our umpires, volunteers, and Cornell staff who spent Easter weekend working the regatta. Huge thank you to our finger lake friends at Hobart and William Smith Colleges for bringing their fleet of powerboats.
