Day one of the 2026 MAISA Spring Women's Fleet Race Championship was long and very cold. Breeze was out of various northerly directions all day and varied between 5 and 21 knots with ebbing current for most of the day kicking up some sizable chop - perfect conditions to seriously challenge both competitors and race committee.
With fairly full-on conditions to start, the call was made the keep the regatta to one fleet of 420Es for the initial races. However, the switch to using both fleets (A in FJs, B in 420Es) ended up being made fairly quickly, and by race 3 both fleets were in the boats they would sail for the rest of the day. By 1745 8 races had been completed in both divisions.
One request for redress was heard by the judges and resulted in compensation being awarded to Navy.
Going into day two, Cornell is in first with 49 points and Georgetown in second with 61 points. ODU and HWS are currently in a tie to round out the podium with 81 points each.
Day two started off with champagne dinghy sailing conditions - ~7 knots out of the south with flat water. Breeze would escalate to the high teens by the time racing wrapped up around 1430, but all six races that were needed for each division were easily completed regardless thanks to some prompt work by regatta staff throughout the day.
One request for redress was heard by the judges and resulted in compensation being awarded to Fordham. An MRP penalty was also given to GW for having an unregistered sailor on their RP form as of the end of the protest time limit.
Congratulations to the Cornell Big Red for taking home the championship! Props as well to Georgetown for really turning it on today to make things close at the top of the results sheet.
Many thanks to everyone who made it possible to run this championship event: PRO Rick Dominique, Chief Judge Lisl Dunlop, all of our other judges (Sam Hahn, Meg Leary, Beth Fleisher, and Cormac Murphy), MAISA Rep KJ from Navy, and all of the KP midshipmen that gave up their weekend to work as regatta staff
We look forward to hosting many of these teams back here at the end of April for the Admiral's Cup.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
