Jeremy A. Pinkerton Memorial Regatta

The regatta began with beautiful warm, sunny weather. Throughout the day, winds remained consistently 7-12kts while clocking left. The pleasant weather kept steady as the day progressed, allowing for races up to 8B to be completed before racing was concluded for the day. In race 3A, a protest was heard between Washington College and the University of Delaware that resulted in the University of Delaware being disqualified from the race on the grounds of a Rule 10 violation. Otherwise, all races were completed with no issues.

Sunday began sunny and warm with strong, gusty winds from the Southwest. After attending to some breakdowns and capsizes, races 9A and 10A were run. 10A was run as a W3 to minimize extra sailing required for rotations. In race 9A, Princeton suffered a ring-ding failure in their mainsheet block. Because the ring-ding was obscured by tape, redress was awarded. In addition, boat 10 suffered a breakdown during rotations and was swapped with the unused boat 5 for 9B and 10B. By the time B division began racing, a storm was fast approaching. In the interest of expediting racing, race 9B was run as a W2 and 10B was run as a W3. By the end of 10B, the storm arrived, so racing was concluded for the day.

Congratulations to the Virginia Wahoos for placing 1st, the Maryland Terps for placing 2nd, and the American Eagles for placing 3rd! Thank you WRSC, UMD Alumni, Deale VFD, and all other volunteers who gave their time to make this regatta run smoothly!
