The John Jackson Memorial Regatta is held each spring in honor of John T. Jackson Georgetown '03 who passed away in a tragic accident in Chicago a few months after he graduated from Georgetown. John was the heart and soul of the team, he was a walk-on who made himself an integral part of championship teams.
Sailing got underway at around 1130AM after a brief pause to allow the tide to come up. Conditions were challenging in the Washington Sailing Marina lagoon with big wind shifts all day. 46 Races were completed in a NW wind that gusted as high as 30mph but was generally 7-14mph. The umpire team of Jack Reiter, Marley Mais, Nathaniel Winters, JP Panarella, Addi Harris and Mariner Fagan did a great job of keeping the racing fair.
Big thanks for the Georgetown Undergraduates who ran the races and kept things moving in very difficult conditions. The plan for Sunday is to complete the 2nd round robin and run either a final four and consolation four or just a final four.
Sunday was another tricky day for race management and another long day on the water. Racing started out in the Potomac River right outside the Washington Sailing Marina. 3 races were sailed before the astronomically low tides got in the way. Racing resumed after the fleet made its way to Hains Point. The second round robin was completed in WNW winds of 5-15mph. After a short break a championship final four was sailed in winds that gusted close to 30mph. Very close racing with multiple lead changes on the final beats in the shifty conditions. Congrats to Georgetown for winning the 2025 John Jackson Memorial Team Race Regatta.
