Truxtun Umstead Regatta

Summary

Saturday, April 13:

West winds steady in the low 20s with gusts into the 30s defined the day. Initially breeze and tidal current ran opposite making for unsafe conditions to leave the basin and resulting in a postponement until 10:45 when the tide change occurred.

At 10:45 we attempted to rig and set a course but breeze became stronger pushing more water in the same direction as the current and making it difficult for marks and boats to stick in the middle of the channel (necessary placement due to direction).

With the forecast indicating no change in current or breeze until late evening, the decision was made to call off the day. Many thanks to Race Committee for trying to get the course set, Maritime shore team for helping prep boats, and the visiting teams for understanding we want to ensure fair and safe racing conditions. We look forward to a better forecast on Sunday.

Sunday, April 14:

Sunshine and a WSW breeze at 10-12knts started off the day. Breeze slowly tracked left all day with a massive shift to the South following a quick sprinkle of rain for race 8B. As the breeze moved South it increased ending the day with the steady southerly breeze averaging 15-17knts and gusts into the low 20s.

Current ran strong today tracking from the Whitestone Bridge to the Throgs Neck Bridge. Just after Noon it started to ease a bit as the tide changed but held steady in the same direction of flow.

Each Fleet completed 10 races; the final race, 10B, started at 2:53pm. Big shoutout to our Race Committee and Mark Boats for putting together courses quickly and efficiently through the constantly shifting breeze and strong current. Thank you Brendan, Rebecca, Arseny, Kevin, James, Robert, Jimmy, and Harrison. Thanks to Nick for handling scoring onshore. Thanks to our MAISA/ICSA Rep, Zach Runci too.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
