Teams arrived to a sparkly Mendums day with breeze whipping around both in direction and velocity, shifting from W to WSW to WNW, finally settling from the WSW. Of course, it’s Mendums, so teams that thought the right paid off found themselves on the outside of many shifts, the same for teams that thought the left paid off. The middle wasn’t a cakewalk either, nor the answer to anyones prayers. Keeping one's head out of the boat and looking upwind was the ticket to success. Racing was quite tight, with many close finishes.
A division earned an I flag after the first aggressive start, keeping them pretty honest for the remainder of the day. B division demonstrated how a chaotic cluster-filled start doesn’t work and that staying in phase for the start was critical to a boat's success. Breeze ranged from a lighter 5-8 to 15-18 in puffs as the second half of the day saw a steady 10-15. Quite a few capsizes in the higher breeze, and quite a few wet and cold sailors
