2024 CGA J70 Invite #2

Summary

Saturday, March 30:

J70 Invite #2 began with reefed mains and no spinnakers with sailors navigating an 8-25 knot northwesterly with a moderate ebb current. Auto-tacks were fairly common towards the windward mark in the first two races and once or twice we saw some keels on the upwind in the top-end puffs. Spinnakers were put up for races 3-7 and reefs shaken out for races 5-7 as the breeze laid down slightly and the current increased. By the end of the day, sailors were racing in a hefty ebb current and a lovely southwesterly breeze. URI absolutely dominated the day, controlling their heel angle expertly on the upwind and maximizing speed on the downwind. Racing is close for the rest of the fleet with the Brown Bears in second and Mass Maritime rounding out the top 3 heading into day 2.

Sunday, March 31:

Day two saw 5 races sailed with the breeze a 5-15 knot Northwesterly through the morning and slowly shifting West and picking up to 8-23 in the early afternoon. URI Rams continued to put on a clinic, with the Brown Bears finishing 2nd overall and Mass Maritime finishing 3rd. Shout out to Michigan St. with an excellent day of sailing with a 4-4-2-3 score line moving them to 4th overall. Thanks to all competitors!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
