A raw east wind at 12-18 knots gave the competitors some fantastic sailing conditions for the 85th Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup. The Roger Williams Hawks seem to be putting on a clinic as they have a 44 point margin over the Harvard Crimson in second place. With ten races completed in all three divisions the sailors have four races remaining in all divisions for tomorrow.
Carter Brock, Wally Corwin and Dan Tucker were on hand to assist sailors with tiller extension universal joints which needed swapping out before they actually broke. Racing was almost non-stop all day with the thirty races rolling seamlessly from one to another. Expert mark tweaking by MIT's Matt Lindblad and Harvard's MIke O'Connor, who also finished all the races, made the regatta flow along without interruptions.
This weekend marks the last weekend of running intercollegiate sailboat races as MIT's Sailing Master for Franny Charles along with his assistant Miss Lucy. MIT is fortunate to have Matt Lindblad taking over as the fifth Director in the 87 year history of the sailing program at MIT.
Soggy conditions with a light east wind brought fickle wind with pulses from the NE and E throughout the day at 3-10 knots. Racing was particularly tight all afternoon with Roger Williams running away wih the victory with a 57 point margin of victory. Harvard Sailing hauled in their river rivals from MIT to finish out in second place overall. The Hawks winning team members were: A Division Aidan Hoogland '24 and Molly Matthews '23: B Division Carlos de Castro '26 and Carly Kiss '25: C Division Kyle Pfrang '26 with Julia O'Connor '24 and Oliver Stokke '26.
It all looked easy with experts Mike O'Connor and Emily Haig tweaking buoys. Our legendary dockstaff of Wally Corwin, Carter Brock and Dan Tucker kept everything flowing smoothly at the pavilion and the boats worked flawlessly.
