Southern 5 Fleet Race/Ewenson Trophy

Summary

Saturday, April 9:

Great day on the upper Salt Pond for the Ewenson Trophy. Geoff Ewenson was a multi year All American at URI, and a great ambassador for the sport after graduating. His sudden passing at a too young age was felt by his extended family, and we hope to carry on his name and enthusiasm for the sport.

Breeze started out from the SSE and clicked right 5 degrees every race, URI Team captain Ryan Palardy was in constant motion squaring the beat. As the breeze clocked right and was reinforced by the thermal, the breeze picked up from 10-12 to 16-19, with a few minor breakdowns, but overall great sailing with nice surfing conditions the last 3 races. 9 races were logged in before the need for a bathroom break sent the fleet in. Looking for more of the same tomorrow to finish the final 5 races.

Sunday, April 10:

Another perfect day on the Salt Pond, moving north into the middle pond allowed 5 quick races with the fleet on the way home by 1:30. A very shifty NNW at 6-16 kept the mark set boats moving and the crews working hard. Roger Williams overcame a DSQ starting the day to nail down the victory over the host URI team. Looking forward to next year's Ewenson with equally fine conditions.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
