After the team introductions and lei giving, races started out in wind trade winds around 15 -18 knots with air and water temps around 80 and the wind picked up consistently through out the day topping out with 20 plus knot puffs. As usual the trade winds in Keehi lagoon were gusty and shifty causing a few wild capsizes throughout the weekend. Peter Wenner and his wife Suzie cooked steak, bacon wrapped dogs, salads, Local Organic Portobello mushrooms and veggie burgers for all the competitors, coaches and spectators after sailing and all teams enjoyed a great well deserved meal followed by a beautiful sunset.
Sunday saw the winds pick up a little from a more normal ENE direction. 12 races were completed in each division with a few minor breakdowns and capsizes in the 25 knot puffs. Sailors were pretty tired by 3pm when we held the last race in 20 to 25 knots of wind. Congratulations to the home team of the UH Rainbows who took first and second in these familiar conditions. Also a huge thanks to the head coach Andy Johnson for organizing the event. The Wenner family for cooking for over 100 people throughout the event and PRO Adam Corpuz-Lahne and his wife Renee DeCurtis as well as the UH coaching staff, voluteers and the UH sailing team for a very memerable event!
