The Leroy Grant

Summary

Saturday, April 16:

Sailors were greeted with great spring sailing conditions at the start of the Leroy Grant Regatta. It was a sunny day with winds at 10 knots gusting to 15 and temperatures in the low 50's. Racing started promptly at 10:00 AM. By noon it warmed up to the low 60's and the breeze dipped to about 8 knots and became shifty causing a few course adjustments. By 3:00 PM the wind diminished to 5 knots. Racing ended around 5:00 PM with 6 races in both A and B division. Throughout the day four protests were heard, resulting in one disqualification. Additionally one school was granted redress.

Sunday, April 17:

Sunday was met with a north easterly breeze at about 8 knots and temperatures in the mid-50's. Racing started at 9:30 AM. Two races were sailed in each division up until 12:30 PM when the wind dropped to 2-3 knots and started shifting heavily. Regatta was postponed until 1:45 PM. Two more races were sailed in each division and racing was concluded by 3:15 PM. A total of 10 races were sailed in A and B division. One protest was heard and disallowed. A big thank you to all Shrewsbury Sailing and Yacht Club Volunteers and Monmouth University sailors for giving up their weekend to help run a successful regatta. Congratulations to the top six teams for qualifying for the America Trophy!
