Palm Beach Trophy

Summary

Saturday, October 17:

All competitors were present at the skippers meeting.

Winds were light out of the south, race committee set a course hoping it would fill. Winds shifted southwest and filled in. After correcting the course racing began around 10:30 am. Winds were light and shift but A division was able to complete 2 W4s and 1 W3 to finish its first set. Winds were 4-7 knots and races averaged 14-17 minutes.

Winds were up and down after the rotation and although race committee was able to start race 1B, it was abandoned halfway through when the wind died completely around 12:30 pm. After about 20 minutes the wind began to refill in from the Northeast. After determining the wind shift was going to hold, race committee flipped the course and was able to get off 3 W4 races in B division.

During the last race of B Division, a storm was building to the northeast that was producing lightning. It was determined that it would be unsafe to continue racing as the lightning was moving closer as the last race was finishing. As it was already 2:00 PM and storms were predicted to continue through the evening racing was completed for the day.

Thank you to Tom Homberger for acting as mark boat, Chris Ryder for providing and helping with the Race Committee boat, Patrick Igoe for acting as the SAISA Rep., and Palm Beach Sailing Club for hosting the event. Thanks to everyone who helped out and showed up.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
