Fall PCC JV

Summary

Saturday, November 18:

An unusual but not unheard of November weather front approached typically sunny Santa Barbara on the first day of the Fall Pacific Coast Championship. Rain was forecast with a frontal easterly breeze and the best case scenario happened where the rain held off until the last race of the day, while shifty breeze ranging from 4-9 knots allowed for plenty of racing over the course of Saturday. The sea state with short chop of 1-3' from the south-southeast was challenging particularly when the breeze lightened up really making the sailors work hard for speed. Racing was fairly interesting and 8 races were completed in A division while B and C division completed 6. There was one protest filed which resulted in a disqualification.

On the JV course, there were 6 A races completed and 4 in B division. Thank you to the UCSB Sailing Team and coach, Ryan Eastwood for helping run race committee. Thank you also to UCSB alumni, David Alexander and Chris Kayda for running mark set on the varsity course.

Sunday, November 19:

After rain hit Santa Barbara over the course of Saturday evening, a clearing breeze of 20-30 knots blew through early in the morning. JV was held ashore while varsity sailors went out in the sporty conditions which held for 4 B-div races, 2 C-div race, 2-A div races. As the day progressed, the breeze lightened up and died before moving to a light and variable southeasterly direction just before completing race 10C. The breeze was highly shifty and volatile and slowed down racing until a westerly came back allowing for race 10c to be started. Half the fleet finished in a westerly before a 20-25 knot northeasterly blew through for the second half of the fleet.

JV went out and completed 2 B races once breeze became more manageable. A division races were started but were abandoned when the breeze died out. The regatta was called after the northeasterly blew through as there was not enough time to get additional sets in on either course.

Thank you again to Ryan Eastwood and the UCSB sailing team as well as UCSB alumni, Tristan Richmond and friend of the team, Emma Deardorff.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
