Fall Pacific Coast Championship

An early and breezy southeasterly breeze diminished quickly as sailors hit the water, allowing for just one race prior to a complete shut off of breeze. Fortunately, a line to the west appeared an hour later and helped the regatta get going in earnest, until around 3:45pm, the wind began to die and shift left, a sign that the day has come to an end. The RC was able to get off 4 races in A and B divisions and 3 races in C division on the varsity course. The JV got off 5 A division races and 3 B division races. There was one protest in the varsity division that was dropped after filing.

A cranking northeasterly breeze was a late fall surprise for Sunday. Puffs topped out at 30 mph, but breeze was volatile ranging from low teens to high 20's. Racing got under way a few minutes after the published 10:30am first warning. The wind shifted between 10 and 50 degrees with an average around the 35 degree mark, until the wind began persistently shifting left after several races had been completed. As the wind continued it's trajectory, the RC eventually had to pick up its course and relocate as the wind went all the way to the 210 degree mark at a much lighter velocity of 5-8 knots. The wind battled between a northerly and a southwesterly making the course interesting and volatile. Conditions were good enough to complete 8 races in each division total. Congratulations to Stanford who had a dominate performance at the event. Congratulations to Cal Maritime for winning the JV division.
