SAISA North Points #3

Summary

Saturday, September 25:

SAISA North Points #3 saw dynamic college sailing conditions (reminiscent of The Charles River at times) with some wind shifts up to 80-90° coming off The Daniel Island shoreline. We had a slight flood tide and beautiful 5-6 knot north/northwest breeze in the morning for the first two 3 race sets between A & B Division. The 2nd A Division set was more challenging as the current began to flood and breeze began to become more patchy (0-1 knots in the lulls), but we managed to get a 2nd A Division set in. B Division went out for their final set of the regatta and the nearly full moon spring ebb tide began ripping so hard against the fleet trying to sail upwind (in their first race of the 2nd set) that much of the fleet began to lose the fight against the current. The dying northerly did not cooperate as the race went on and Poseidon's treadmill got turned up to it's highest setting, which unfortunately resulted in abandonment. We were not able to get in any races in B Division's 2nd set and had to settle on a three race event. Congratulations to CofC for the 1st/2nd place podium finishes & to The Citadel for rounding out the podium in 3rd overall. Thank you to all the SAISA North teams that made the trip out to beautiful Daniel Island and competed today.

A big thank you to the newly formed Daniel Island Yacht Club for hosting us with their amazing new facilities, boats & staff on sight and also thank you for letting us be your guinea pigs for your first official regatta ever held out of the new club! Stefan Kuehn & Joel Bays of Daniel Island Yacht Club made this whole event possible and we're awesome help all day. Thank you Conner Blouin for helping with the mark/support boat. Looking forward to seeing some of the teams out sailing today at The SAISA Women's Open tomorrow off the Charleston Battery.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
