Kilpatrick Regatta

Summary

Saturday, October 23:

The University of Central Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City Boat Club hosted the Kilpatrick Regatta at Lake Hefner. This event was sailed in collegiate 420's. The weather conditions were great with sunny skies and unseasonably warm temperatures in the mid-80's. This fueled strong south winds throughout the day, sustained at 18-24 knots with frequent gusts near 30 knots.

Four teams sailed in the regatta, with many of the sailors reporting this as their first regatta. The safety boat was kept busy monitoring (and sometimes providing assistance) with the numerous capsizes. In the end, Texas Christian University prevailed and won the regatta. The remaining teams all finished close to each other, with only 5 points separating the second, third and fourth place finishers.

Thanks to PRO David Bass and the entire regatta crew for running races, prepping boats, and providing boxed lunches for everyone.
