Erwin Schell Trophy

Summary

Saturday, October 29:

Saturday was a fantastic day of racing on the Thames for both the Schell and Urn Trophies. 38 races were completed across both regattas, all but one on trapezoid courses. PRO John Storck and his team of Coast Guard Cadets worked diligently to keep the course square and the races running swiftly in a southwest breeze ranging from 8-12 knots. Several protests were filed, one resulting in a DSQ. First warning will be at 10am tomorrow.

Sunday, October 30:

Sunday proved to be a bit more challenging for the race committee as the breeze struggled to fill consistently, warranting many abandoned races and sequences. One Urn A-Division race and one Schell A-Division race was completed in a northwesterly. The remaining races were sailed in a southerly ranging from 6-8 knots. All courses were trapezoids.

Thank you to PRO John Storck for volunteering his weekend to help NEISA run a combined championship. Assisting John were CGA undergrads Paul Didham, Sarah Smith, Andy Widmeier, Derek Silliman, August Sturm, Becky Edmonds, Liam Ballantyne, Joe Menesale, Tom Kiesel, Leah Schweigert-Opas, and Erin Morgan.

We had an excellent team of judges on hand this weekend that were kept very busy. They included Chief Judge Peter Johns, Jeff Dusek, Kelsey Wheeler, Bob Austin-LaFrance, John Pratt, John Moulthrop, and Bob Bruno. They heard several protests on Sunday, two resulting in DSQs.

Thank you as well to Greg Wilkinson for serving as the NEISA rep. He not only worked hard during the event but also was a huge help during the planning stages.

Congratulations to Yale for winning both the Schell and the Urn and to all NEISA teams who advanced to the Atlantic Coast Championship.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
