The day was warm and windy as a front approached. The gusts in excess of 25 kts caused several capsizes in the Flying Scots which slowed down the rotations. Only four races were completed before threatening weather caused the suspension of sailing. Michigan State Spartans 1 showed that they were the team to beat posting firsts in each of the day 's races.
Early in the morning the temperature dropped and the wind to increased, including gusts to over 30 kts. This caused PRO Ed Theisen to prohibit the use of Spinnakers. Another capsize delayed the start of racing until 11. After that three additional races were completed as the wind dropped to reasonable levels. There was one bent mast in the 6th race. The fleet decided that there was no point in sailing the 8th race, which would have completed the Round Robin, as the first three places were locked in. Trophies were awarded to each of the members of the first three teams.
