Champagne conditions appropriately greeted the four teams competing for the Ashley Reynolds Reali Memorial Trophy dedicated to USF's first College All-American Crew, class of 2006. Bright blue skies, warm temperatures approaching 80 degs, and a southerly breeze starting at 6 knots greeted the competitors. As forecast, the wind slowly veered to the west and built to a gorgeous 12 knots, with gusts to 17.
Three complete round robins were planned, but the consensus was to add a fourth round. In all, 24 races were sailed, averaging 8-9 minutes in length. With only 4 teams competing, there were inevitable delays waiting for races to complete, but that allowed for ample coaching in this early season event.
Emerging victorious was host team University of South Florida with a 10-2 record, with second place and the long distance travel award going to University of Hawaii with a 7-5 record, followed closely by Rollins College with a 6-6 record.
Many thanks to Umpires Carrie Greene and Phil Pape, Darby Capellin, ICSA rep Esteban Forrer, and to the numerous USF team members who also volunteered their time.
