Day one of the CGA J70 invite #1 started in a strong 18-25 knot Northerly with a moderate ebb tide. After race 1 was sailed with no spinnakers, the wind laid down to 10-18 knots with big shifts between WNW and N. All of the following races were sailed with spinnakers up. Teams saw a significant increase in current throughout the day making sailors race towards shallow water on the Thames. At the end of day 1, Conn College is in the lead after utilizing conservative starting and relying on their excellent boat handling and boat speed. The Webb Clippers and the URI Rams are tied for second, with both teams finding their groove in the second and third sets of the day.
Day 2 of CGA Invite #1 saw an 8-14 knot SSE breeze which laid down throughout the day. The Thames river provided a mild ebb tide through most of racing. Conn College continued their excellent performance from yesterday, winning 3 of the 5 races sailed today. The Webb Clippers had another consistent day at the front of the pack, leading them to 2nd overall. The CofC Cougars battled back from fourth to a podium spot, rounding out the top 3. Congrats to all competitors!
