Seven teams competed in this early season women's team race event. Racing began shortly after 10am in a 8-9 knot northeast breeze. With the race course set inside Bayboro Harbor the water was very flat. Races were 7 to 10 minutes in length.
Round 1 of a round robin rotation of 21 races was completed by 1:30pm and competitors were sent back to shore for a 45 minute break. Unfortunately the wind died as forecast, and Round 2 began in a light 5 knot breeze. Only 7 races could be run before conditions became intolerable. Racing was delayed in the hopes that the seabreeze would fill in sooner than the 5pm forecast, but it did not and competitors returned to the dock for the day.
Round 2 racing resumed at 9:45am in 6-7 knots of ENE breeze, again with very flat water. With only two races remaining in round 2, the wind dropped to zero. Races 41 and 42 were in progress and abandoned.
Many thanks to all the competitors, especially Hawaii and MIT for the super long distance and long distance travel awards.
A special thank you to volunteer umpire Brendan Feeney for providing limited umpiring, moving from race to race as needed, and to ICSA rep MIT coach Caroline Young.
Congratulations to College of Charleston, winning with a perfect 12-0 record.
