As the bridge month between Winter and Spring, March is known for its weather extremes. We got the full spectrum of those conditions all in one day for the Seawolf Women's Open. Early spring-like temperatures and party cloudy skies welcomed teams to Port Jefferson for a great day of racing in a light to moderate and shifty southerly breeze. Looking at the forecast, we knew that a big cold front was going to move through at some point in the afternoon, so races and rotations were handled expeditiously. However, just as we were completing race 9A, the wind did a 180 to the NW and picked up from 5 knots to over 20, big waves started to form and the temperature dropped. There were 3 capsizes as A division sailed in and once all boats were helped, it was clear that racing for the day was over. With a forecast for high wind and subfreezing temperatures on Sunday, the regatta was deemed complete.
Congratulations to Columbia University for the win and thank you to all the teams for making the trip! Big thank you to James Gilmore III'19 for running the mark/safety boat and thank you to all the SBU sailors for helping throughout the day.
Regatta finished on Saturday

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
