Saturday's racing completed the 75 races scheduled for the Carter Ford PCC Open Team Race Champs. The day began as competitors arrived at 1030 for a briefing and great waters for rowing. After a 30 minute delay, sailors launched in a 3-5 knot Northeasterly. The first 5 races sailed were a RC's nightmare, 0-10 knot oscillating at 90 degree variations. Several races were called back. The course was adjusted consistently out of sync and in vain.
However, around 12:30 everything changed for the better. A 7-12 knot northwesterly came rolling over the mountains announcing itself in rolling clouds cascading down the hills. For the next seven hours, the team racing was steady and righteous. Sailing was concluded as the sun set behind the mountains in shades of gold and blue. Stanford was crowed the champs of the PCC with a 19-0 record.
No words can describe the effort put worth by our umpire crew led by Rob Overton. Brian McDonald, Greg Meagher, Rex Cameron, and Don Wieneke. Unlike the sailors, the umps had almost no breaks, sprinting from finish line to starting like to accomadate the constant rotation that came with the magical conditions, for 8 hours.
We could not have done it without them.
No racing Sunday.
Nothing more to say.
