GW Team Race

Summary

Saturday, March 1:

Beautiful conditions met the Sailors on Saturday morning with SE winds 10-15MPH. The forecast called for Gale force winds from the West around 1230PM so the Race Committee hustled to get as many races in as possible. One round was completed by noon. The gale hit around 1220 and there were multiple capsizes but everyone made it in safely and the decision was made to call racing for the day due to high winds. Many thanks to the RC for getting off great races and to our umpires - Billy Martin, Marley Mais, Jack Corbett, Wills Cook, Mariner Fagan and Gwynie Dunlevy.

Sunday, March 2:

Sunday was a very tricky day to run races. The temps were below freezing until about 1030 so racing was postponed for a bit. When the sailors hit the water at 11 the breeze was unstable from the NW. Many races were abandoned in the shifting dying wind so racing was again postponed. The RC made the decision to run the rest of the event in the River and the GW Team Race went first. Winds were strong but shifty from the NW about 5-12mph. A strong outgoing current and falling water levels made things even more interesting. When the GW team race finished the Gtown team race sailed their final races of round 2. Water levels were too low so the last races were sailed in the channel which had an even stronger outgoing current. The final sail off race was finished by 315PM. Congrats to Navy and St. Mary's for winning the GW and GTN Team Races.
