The inaugural Georgetown Women’s Team Race regatta got off to a great start. The 8 competing teams were greeted by a nice 10-15mph South Wind. Racing began on the Potomac River and continued for a few hours before a lunch break. The wind proved to be a little unstable ranging from SE to SW. Afternoon races were held in the Washington Sailing Marina Lagoon in a West wind of 3-18mph. Big changes in wind direction and velocity led to multiple lead changes and no combination was safe. In all 40 races were completed. Many thanks to the Georgetown University Undergraduates for running the races and to the team of Umpires - Mariner Fagan, Annabelle Ayer, Riley Kloc, Addi Harris and Audrey Fung.
A nice but cold NW wind greeted the sailors on Sunday. Water levels were low but the race committee was able to set a course that worked. The first 6 races were sailed in great conditions but then the wind got a little fluky and began showing wild shifts and changes in velocity. A number if races were called off and others were kept even though final beats were often skewed. Racing was challenging and close again with every team showing great skill. The original plan was to do a Top and bottom 4 after the conclusion of the 2nd round robin but the wind didn’t cooperate and the bottom 4 was dropped. The top 4 started in a nice ENE wind but that wind began to die and the race Committee made the call to abandon the round at 250pm with 4 races left to sail. A final sailor race for 3rd place was sailed at the end between Dartmouth and Tufts.
Congrats to Georgetown for winning the event.
