Duke Spring Invitational

Summary

Sunday, February 23:

The Duke Spring Invitational Regatta was a fixture on the SAISA calendar throughout the 1960s and 1970s, but had not been held in several decades. Returning to the schedule, the 2025 Duke Spring Invitational Regatta was attended by five SAISA teams and was sailed in a combined fleet on Lake Crabtree in light conditions. As teams launched, an initial 180 degree wind shift delayed completion of the first race and the early appearance of a 4-5 mph breeze promptly turned into active drifting with several race starts being abandoned. After the completion of an initial race, then a brief onshore postponement, the race committee was able to once again begin racing and completed two additional races before the afternoon sun and increasingly warm temperatures brought any hope of more wind to a close. Patience and focus were key factors for all teams participating. The return of the Duke Spring Invitational may not have been marked by breeze and lots of racing, but there was ample camaraderie between competitors and excitement to be out on the water on a beautiful day. The short regatta was won by the NC State Wolfpack, joined on the podium by their Triangle-area neighbors and regatta hosts, Duke Blue Devils, and the UNC-Chapel Hill Tarheels in third place.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
