J70 Invite #3

Summary

Saturday, April 2:

The Thames River delivered a gorgeous day of sailboat racing for day 1 of the USCGA J70 invite. Eight teams battled an extremely shifty and challenging Northwest wind which altered between a smooth 10 knots to a ripping 20 knots. The breeze lowered through day 1 but remained shifty and challenging throughout. The URI Rams dominated the first half of the day with great downwind decisions and speed, with the USMMA Mariners controlling the second half of the day with great upwind speed and tactics. It's anyone's game going into day 2 with 3 points separating the top 4 teams and the Cougars and Privateers close on those team's heels.

Sunday, April 3:

Day 2 of the J70 invite saw a light and steady Southeasterly breeze with a mild ebb current. The KP Mariners absolutely dominated the morning with triple bullets, continuing their streak of great sailing from the afternoon before. The URI Rams and CGA Bears were battling right with the Mariners, keeping their finishes consistent and within striking distance of KP. The Regatta came down to the final two races with the Rams pulling out the double bullets in the clutch to claim the event. Congratulations to all competitors and thanks for a great event.
