J-70 Invite #1

Summary

Saturday, March 19:

Saturday began with a short delay due to lack of wind with a 5-8 knot Southerly filling around noon and racing starting shortly afterwards. Once racing began 8 teams competed in classic Thames river conditions with shifty breezes and 2 knots of upwind current. Roger Williams dominated the day with no race lower than 3rd place, with tight competition seen for 2nd place between the Brown Bears, Maine Maritime Mariners, the Coast Guard Bears and the Vermont Catamounts. Six races were completed with the day ended slightly early due to extremely foggy conditions.

Sunday, March 20:

Sunday began with a light Southeasterly breeze with minimal upwind current. The fleet was again closely matched throughout the day with the exception of the RWU Hawks stellar performance with no race lower than 4th place. Seven races were completed today with breeze trending towards the Southwest and then to the tricky West wind which included some planing conditions for the J70s. The battle for 2nd and 3rd place came down to the final race with the Brown Bears just fighting off Maine Maritime and CGA Bears who tied for third with the Mariners coming out on top. Congrats to all competitors, thanks for racing!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
