PRIDDY - Freshman Championship

Summary

Saturday, April 13:

The day started out with rain in the morning which cleared by report time. A short presentation 30 minutes prior to report time (10:30) was given by Sail BLack Rock Head Race Coach, Peter Coleman along with guest coach, Matt Largess, from Tufts. They both spoke on their sailing careers and highlights of coaching. It was well done and very interesting for any young sailors who want to go to the next level and beyond. RC called a 1 hour postponement due to fog. To take up time a raffle was held for a Terry Hutchinson autographed America's Cup cap, which was won by the Tuft's skipper.

Competitor's headed out at 11:30am to rig the boats and sail out. The initial course was intended to be inside the harbor but the light wind conditions necessitated traveling to the outer course in open water on Long Island Sound, off St. Mary's Point. Sea conditions were calm with very light winds. RC was able to get off two slow races after several wind delay postponements. Heavy fog rolled in engulfing the competitors which caused additional postponements. The third race was started in light conditions after the fog lifted a bit. The fog however would not give up and again engulfed the fleet halfway up the first leg. Competitors seemed to enjoy the challenging visibility but it made Race Management somewhat tenuous. After a couple more wind delay postponements, the breeze filled in nicely around 3pm (SW 8-10 kts) which made the last 3 races pleasant and competitive.

Pizza and ginger beer was waiting for the competitors ashore, all sponsored by Regatta Ginger Beer. Sailor's bracelets were awarded to the skipper and crew of the podium finishers with URI winning The Priddy Trophy.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
