While the snow amassed on the beautiful shores of Lake MacBride, Iowa, a group of eager sailors from three schools convened ready to commence their 2018 season. However, mother nature won the day, compiling seven inches of snow and gusts topping forty miles per hour. After several hours of hoping for the precipitation to subside, with no end in sight the teams resorted to recreation. A special thanks to the grounds crew at the Lake MacBride recreation area for help accessing the area and all of the volunteers. The scorer notes that despite our(The University of Iowa's) success on the water, a group with TONS of enthusiasm appeared, with over 15 sailors showing up to help prepare despite Winter Storm Warnings.
The Sun rose upon the snow encrusted shores of beautiful Lake MacBride, Iowa bringing ample wind with it. While there was a valiant effort from all participants, the regatta was cut short after just half of a rotation. The combination of wind, cold water and fresh snow proved to be too much, as the racing was abandoned just after 12:00 hours. The scorer would like to thank all of the teams that made the the trek to Iowa City for the Hawkeye Invite.
