St. Mary's Team Race

Summary

Saturday, March 14:

45 races were completed in good team racing conditions 3-7 knots from the south, southwest and (late in the day) southeast. Spectating was hampered part of the day with intense fog that eventually killed the breeze and forced PRO Stan "The Man" Hyatt to bring everyone ashore for a postponement that also served as a much needed lunch break for the umpire team and race committee who were sometimes getting pounded by the bands of rain. A fantastic umpire team did a great job keeping up with the pace of racing: Huge thanks to Rob Overton (Chump), Jeff Borland, Pat Healy, Bryan McDonald, Dillion Paiva, Rob Rowlands and Christopher Segerblom!

Sunday, March 15:

Sunshine and lots of wind were the hallmarks of Sunday's racing. Breeze ramped up slowly from the Northwest, but starting cranking steadily into the mid-20's. Halfway thru the second round robin, the breeze piped up again and there were enough rescues to postpone ashore, re-group and attend to cold or injured athletes. The decision was made to eliminate the FJ's from the rotation and race in the more stable Z420's only. Given the time remaining, the format was reduced to a final six which was completed in great breeze and thus fun racing was had by all. Another strong win by Yale.

Thanks to Greg Wilkinson (Techscore guru) and Bern Noack (ICSA Rep) for helping to organize the revised rotation in the most efficient way possible. Most importantly, we were thankful to have a PRO who was also a EMT as Stan the Man Hyatt was called upon to investigate a head injury, which he did in a most professional manner. Fortunately, following a hospital visit, the injured player is recovering nicely.
