Hoosier Daddy Regatta

Summary

Saturday, April 13:

Saturday was a very chilly, gusty day. We had some of the best wind I’ve seen in my time sailing on Lake Lemon. The temperature was in the mid 50s for most of the day with a lot of cloud cover. The wind was consistently out of the south, blowing a steady 14 for most of the day with puffs up to 26. This gust of 26 knots hit during the first B rotation. There were frequent capsizes in both fleets during the first rotation. At the end of the second B race, one of the boats, which had gone over multiple times, took a lot of water into the hull and was basically un-sailable. Apparently one of the hull plugs had been knocked out. It was pulled out of the water and the towed Iowa boat was brought in. We took this time to move the course closer to shore where it would be more protected from the winds. This took roughly 5 knots off the wind. The leeward mark was still in an area that got heavier puffs and there were still some capsizes there as a result. Windward-leewards were sailed all day. 2 of 4 rotations were completed.

Sunday, April 14:

Sunday was a much more pleasant afternoon. The day started overcast and the sun came out around 10. Temperatures reached the low 70s. We set up the courses more out into the middle of the lake. The big winds that had been forecasted never materialized and we had a steady day of around 10 knots all day. Windward-leewards were sailed again. We finished the last two rotations. Iowa 1 wins with 25 points and Iowa 2 and Washington tie at 43 with Washington University winning the tiebreaker.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
