The wind started uncharacteristically light on Biscayne Bay today but a lovely 85 degrees air temp and a water temperatures in the 70's. After waiting an hour on shore, racing started at 11:30 AM with approximately 4 knts of breeze. By the 3rd race it had built to 7-8 knts, and by 2PM was at approximately 13 knts where it stayed for the rest of the day. The wind direction started at 135 degrees and moved to 155 deg at 1PM for the rest of the afternoon. Sixteen races, no breakdowns no protests, were finished at almost exactly 5PM, with plenty of time left for the barbeque before the sailors hit the road to drive home. Thanks go to Coconut Grove Sailing Club for hosting the event, the UM sailing team support group for running the races and the barbeque, and Ransom Everglades High School for use of their floating dock.
Congratulations to the Univ. of Florida Gators for winning the regatta.
