It started off a bit chilly, icy rain pelting the boathouse at Mascoma Lake. The teams driving up had heard the treacherous tales of the 1 stop, winner-take-all Northern Series somewhere up in the mountains of New Hampshire. Competitors feared the worst as they battled torrential down pours on Interstate 89, but they were greeted by a nice 8-15 knot Northerly, appropriate for the Northern Series. As the day went on, the sun finally came out around 1:45 and showered the afternoon. Ten Races were sailed, 6 prior to lunch and 4 following. Conditions were typical Mascoma northerly: puffy, long shifts, and some capsizes due to minimal vang tension on the downwinds. Courses were W4s and W3s. Fun racing was had by all: special thanks to Middlebury and Northeastern for sending a Women's Team! Shame on Amherst and Bates - they were no-shows, and really missed out!
