Allstate Sugar Bowl Open

Summary

Saturday, September 21:

Sunny skies and steady breeze greeted the athletes for the 2024 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Regatta.

Racing got underway just after 10am in a steady 5-6 knot NE breeze. 4 races were sailed before a short halftime break on shore.

In the afternoon the breeze came up slightly to around 6-9 knots with oscillations. 4 more races were sailed with race 8 ending just after 3pm.

Sunday, September 22:

Another beautiful day on Lake Pontchartrain with a gradually building breeze again out of the NE starting out around 8 knots. By the last race the breeze had built to a steady 10-12 and then shifted hard to the SE as a seabreeze tried to fill. The new offshore breeze direction meant for a very shifty final race.

6 races were sailed in all with the last one wrapping up around 1:15pm.

One protest was filed and heard resulting in a DSQ in Race 13.

Shortly after teams came ashore a brief trophy presentation was hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl Committee, with trophies being awarded to the top 3 teams and low point skipper.

A big thank you to the Sugar Bowl Committee and Southern Yacht Club for their hospitality and to the Tulane team for helping run the event.

Congratulations to the Tulane Green Wave on the win.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
