Hewitt Trophy

Summary

Saturday, October 5:

Teams arrived after eating lunch and were greeted by a beautiful West Northwesterly. A course was set beyond Dipper Cove Ledges. 3 W4s and 1 W3 were sailed in each division before heading in for a rotation. After leaving the racing area hiking and practicing windward mark roundings in current, the fleet returned to significantly less breeze. Another 2 W4s were completed in A division and 1 W4 was complete for B division before tow lines were offered for the sail in. B division responded to the decision by singing in unison.

Thank you to Mike O'Connor for being ICSA Rep and driving the coach boat. Thank you to the Bowdoin sailors who delayed fall break to help run the event (Kique Ruiz '26, Tolly Kaiser '28, Owen Warren '28, Posie '27, Lance Dinino '25, Cole Amaral '28, Ava Tobias '28).

Sunday, October 6:

Sunday started with a nice, light west northwesterly that died throughout the day. A race course was in the other cove and B division kicked off racing. After the rotation, the wind abandoned Harpswell Sound and the 10th B race had to be abandoned while on the first downwind. It was attempted a second time in the final puff of 4 knots before race committee sent everyone to the dock.

Thank you to everyone who made the trip and to the Bowdoin athletes who delayed their fall break to help run the event.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
