Peak Foliage

Summary

Sunday, October 17:

What a stellar day for the Peak Foliage! 13 teams showed up to partake of very shifty lake breeze. Sun, lots of colours and stiff breeze greeted sailors. Capsizes began before the first race, as the shifty winds were mostly from the WNW at 15 to 20 and whacky sustained gusts 20-25 with a couple inching over that, according to the anemometer. Planing, and many spectacular wipeouts and broaches were had by almost every team member at some point during the day. 3 races sets and a couple of breakdowns plus one port starboard collision with damage only afforded sailors a total of 4 races in each division given the time limit on Sundays.

Many thanks to all the UNH sailors on the dock and especially to Grant in the crash boat. Thanks to Clay and James who were volunteered to right a turtled boat, the patient RC team, and a special thanks to Jared Reineck from Wentworth who helped out in both rescues and ferrying our photographer around. Note to remind teams to come prepared for the conditions of the day and to have a bailer that you can attach to your boat.

Congratulations to Vermont who walked away with Reece’s in both A and B division along with bullets all around to win the Peak Foliage with a combined score of 8 for 8 races total.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
