Olympians Regatta

Summary

Saturday, October 4:

Beautiful sailing in an easterly breeze in Newport. Most of us started in about 8 knts. Havard started in about 9knts, as the breeze was building and they arrived late and were late for the start. Tufts started in about 12knts, as they were even later and missed the first race completely. They started 4 mins late for the second race. The breeze eventually built to 15knts with a few higher blasts.

After 4 great races we went in for lunch and a rotation. We returned to a solid 15knts for the fifth race, and it continued to build a little more. It was decided that no spinnakers would be used in races 6-8 after RW (port) planted their bow into Tufts'(starboard) midships in pre-start maneuvers. I guess I didn't want to push my luck with the potential for more damage. No one was injured, and aside from the hole in the bow, we had a great day of fun, sailing Ynglings. For those who may be wondering, the RW team handled themselves in the most courteous, apologetic, and professional manner with regard to the incident. Hats off to them! Accidents happen.

Strong breeze predicted for tomorrow. YIKES! It's gonna be a blast!

Sunday, October 5:

Great westerly breeze in the morning. Southwest breeze built to 18knts in the afternoon. Congratulations to Dartmouth for some incredibly consistent sailing.

Thanks to Cullen from Maine Maritime for manning our safety boat and assisting with course management.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
